FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Short, direct answers about how SecondDesk works and how messaging is handled.

How does SecondDesk work?

When a call to a participating business goes unanswered, SecondDesk sends the caller a brief text message inviting them to share what they need. The reply lands in the operator's inbox as a service request, already triaged with timing, address, and photos when the customer adds them.

Does SecondDesk replace my phones?

No. Your phone number, carrier, and call routing stay exactly the same. SecondDesk only handles the follow-up text after a call is missed.

When are messages sent?

Messages are sent in direct response to a customer interaction — typically a missed inbound call to the business, a submitted intake form, or a continuation of an existing service conversation. There is no scheduled cadence and no marketing drip.

Can customers opt out?

Yes. Recipients can reply STOP (or UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT) at any time to opt out of further messages from the business. Replying HELP returns a short message with the business name and support contact.

Does SecondDesk send marketing messages?

No. SecondDesk is operational messaging only — missed-call recovery, scheduling, intake continuation, and service follow-up. We prohibit marketing campaigns, promotional drips, affiliate outreach, lead resale, and purchased lists. See our Acceptable Use Policy.

How quickly can we get started?

Most teams are live the same day. Onboarding takes a few minutes: confirm your business details, connect your line, send a test message, and turn on coverage for after-hours or all-hours.

Is mobile information shared?

No. Mobile information will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Phone numbers and message content are transmitted only as needed to deliver the service via our regulated telecommunications provider. See the Privacy Policy and SMS Terms.

Are message and data rates applicable?

Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.
